Good Morning
WHY THE GOSPEL TRANSFORMED EUROPE BUT CANNOT TRANSFORM NIGERIA AND AFRICA
One of the most important questions Nigerians and Africans must ask is this;
Why did Christianity help transform countries like England, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and later America into prosperous societies, while more than forty years of Pentecostal growth has left Nigeria and Africa struggling with poverty, insecurity, corruption and underdevelopment?
The answer is not comfortable, but you need to hear it.
1. The Christianity that transformed Europe was fundamentally different from the Christianity that dominates much of Nigeria and Africa today.
This does not mean one group loved God more than the other.
It means they understood different aspects of the gospel and see God differently. Understanding produces fruit.
For example, about five hundred years ago, the Protestant Reformers changed the way people viewed work.
Before then, many believed that only Pastors, priests and church workers were doing God’s work. Today, this is the prevalent belief of many Nigerian Christians too. Hence we have popular terms like ‘Men of God’, or ‘Woman of God’.
The Reformers challenged this idea.
They taught that a farmer serves God in same way and same level that a Bishop serves God.
A teacher serves God no less than a Pastor.
A carpenter serves God and is equal before God as the priest.
A merchant serves God and is equal to an evangelist. They only have different platforms.
A politician serves God, and is a missionary in the public space.
A scientist serves God, and stands on equal pedestal before God as the Arch-Bishop.
In their time, work itself became a sacred calling.
This changed everything.
Suddenly, people stopped seeing work as a burden and began seeing it as worship.
Excellence became a spiritual duty.
Productivity became a spiritual duty.
Honesty became a spiritual duty.
Time management became a spiritual duty.
People worked hard not merely to make money but because they believed they were serving God through their work.
2. Over time, a culture emerged.
People became known for discipline.
They arrived on time to their meetings and commitments.
They honoured contracts.
They saved money.
They invested wisely.
They developed skills.
They built businesses.
They planned for future generations.
This became known as the Protestant Work Ethic.
Many of these got translated into laws that govern much of Europe till today.
Its message was simple:
“Pray hard. Work hard. Produce value. Live honestly. Build for the future.”
This culture helped create the foundation for modern capitalism, industrialization and economic growth of Europe, and America by extension.
Factories emerged.
Universities expanded.
Scientific discoveries accelerated.
Businesses flourished.
Entire nations advanced.
The renaissance boomed. Europe led the world.
3. Now let us compare this with much of modern Nigerian and African Christianity.
In many churches, success is often presented as something that arrives suddenly.
A breakthrough.
A miracle.
A prophetic declaration from a great ‘man of God’.
A divine connection.
A financial anointing.
‘Covenant day of breakthrough’
‘Miracle money’, ‘miracle jobs’, ‘miracle promotion’ etc.
There is nothing wrong with believing in miracles.
The problem begins when miracles replace responsibility.
Many people spend more time seeking shortcuts than developing competence.
They spend more time attending conferences than acquiring skills.
They kill time praying for promotion than improving performance.
They have more time expecting harvests than planting seeds.
The result is predictable.
People desire prosperity without productivity.
And prosperity without productivity does not exist.
It is a Pentecostal delusion.

There's no need for Oriyomi Hazmat to be explaining whether he welcomed gumi or not, it is clear and evident that Oriyomi has no regard for Christianity, and he would rather pick a traditional worshipper over Christianity.
Looking at every other candidate that have been flying their banners under the umbrella of Oriyomi Hazmat, even to Ogbomoso where we know it's Christian dominated, we have been seeing Muslims and core Muslims showing interest for other positions.
Aside from the fact that, this man has not shown anything worthy of leading the state, he's a disasters that's hanging that might the state backwards for more than 20 years.
It's not a campaign against him, it's a call to be wiser.
Here is one more reason I do it advocate for Peter Obi, as much as I would have loved him to be there, his grassroot or online supporters, are more of nuisance sycophants and people who have no regard for fellow humans.
The signs are too much to ignore.
The idea that Peter Obi's fault or errors must not be opened or discussed, is something I don't understand and it's really worrisome.
Anytime someone is trying to make them see where he didn't do well, the next thing is cyber bullying Or abuse, that left me with the question.
Is PO really the man or just a lesser evil ego we decide to paint white.
Why do you think those who killed and burned Deborah Emmanuel in Sokoto are all walking free today?
Why do you think 34 lawyers appeared in court to defend those arrested over the crime, even though the perpetrators themselves recorded the act and posted the video online?
Why do you think they had such audacity?
Why do you think Atiku Abubaka’s tweet condemning the killing attracted fierce criticism from many of his Muslim supporters?
Why do you think he later deleted the tweet and issued a disclaimer….one of the reasons he now adds the initials “AA” to his posts? And why has he, to this day, not spoken clearly about the barbaric murder of Deborah Emmanuel?
The answer, many would argue, is simple: Sharia law.
Sokoto operates a Sharia legal system alongside Nigeria’s secular legal framework. The confidence displayed by the perpetrators, the public sympathy they received in some quarters, and the willingness of many to defend or justify the killing did not emerge in a vacuum. They are rooted in a religious and legal culture that regards blasphemy as a grave offence deserving severe punishment.
This is also why extremists can kill, behead, or attack those they consider guilty of blasphemy or apostasy while shouting “Allahu Akbar.” In their understanding, they are carrying out what they believe to be the will of God as expressed through laws and teachings they regard as divine.
Whether one agrees with that interpretation or not, the killing of Deborah Emmanuel remains one of the clearest examples of how religiously motivated violence can be tolerated, defended, or insufficiently condemned within a society.
The uncomfortable truth is that the ideas that justify such acts are not openly confronted and rejected by our government, it is this idea that the terrorists are on mission to push across every where in Nigeria. After all, if the government can allow Sharia in the North, why can’t it do the same in the South? That is the issue. And sadly, only very few Muslims will be against the terrorists on that sharia demand. And as I said earlier, your president and especially the vice president, will not be among the few Muslims.
