@MarquesEversoll I dont know how to describe it other than this is one of the most uninspiring Packer teams in sometime. They are incredibly predictable from a game flow standpoint. It feels like every game goes the same way.

@DaddyWarpig There are near endless number of new things from Indy publishers with old school vibe and spirt. Many opinions are they are better than the original. Too much focus on what WoTC is doing. Ignore, move on, etc.
@memeslich If your not willing to let the dice decide and the consequences my opinion is don't roll in the first place. Either simply decide or create consequences / outcomes that you find acceptable.
However if everyone at the table is cool with the GM fudging rolls then also no harm
@elvenmaidinn Physical durability, skill, luck, magical factors, and etc. At least in the old school sense. A portion of it is no kidding physical damage - how much -. I have never seen a breakdown or it. HP is an abstraction. If folks want real healing I recommend a wound system over HP.
@BrettUltimus Found other styles of games and setting types that I prefer. D&D while versatile can't do what I want so found a better tool for my purposes
@YoDanno I love playing Bards. My favorite. Really just a fighter, mage, thief that has a lute. Eliminates the what I consider cumbersome old multiclass rules. Note: I did not play 1e or earlier bards. RC and 2e are where my D&D journey begin.
@_Ashaman Old D&D had attribute restrictions and race restrictions for classes. Old D&D was not about leveling Up how you wanted. There was not really many choices when leveling. In my experiences "old" D&D was more about finding sweet magic loot
@dungeoncraft Like what do you consider "younger"? 45 here - I get THAC0 but find other more modern designs more elegant and easier to use and therefore prefer them. I don't understand the need for some to defend THAC0 and others to attack it.
@Marxon1134x@SandyofCthulhu@memeslich I am not a 5e apologist - ran it for a year and it was OK for me - prefer other games. I have no love for WoTC either. The 5e DMG is a good product though. I think it's underutilized in the 5e sphere.
@Marxon1134x@SandyofCthulhu@memeslich HP are not just wounds in D&D. It represents wounds, stamina, luck, mixed, Grit, etc. 1e DMG page 82 for reference.
So your character is restored to full on all of those things. 5e does have an optional slow heal mechanic if that is not everyone's taste.
