I've been in Ukraine for roughly 12 hours.

I came here to study a healthcare system functioning under extraordinary pressure.

And I expected to learn about resilience.

I didn't expect to experience it quite this directly.

This won't be my last thread about Ukraine.

I’m an American who arrived in Kyiv today. 🇺🇸➡️🇺🇦

Within hours, Russia 🇷🇺 launched a massive wave of attacks on the city.

I came here to spend three days studying how Ukraine’s healthcare system functions during a war.

I knew there was active conflict. I did not expect my first night to look like this.

That is the part of this war that is difficult to comprehend from thousands of miles away.

You don't have to be near a battlefield to become part of an invisible war.

A warning appears on your phone. A siren sounds. You hear something explode.

Millions of civilians live with that reality.
