Thrilled to have an installment of "If My Book" up on Monkeybicycle today, comparing my book to things you might expect: mirrors, planets, birds. And also those less expected: conspiracy theorists, adrelanine junkies, astronomy students.
ON THE SITE TODAY: If My Book with Samantha Edmonds and her new story collection, A PREPONDERANCE OF STARRY BEINGS, out now from TriQuarterly/Northwestern University Press.

Delighted to announce that TALES FROM MANILA AVE by Patrick Joseph Caoile is this year's winner of the @SundressPub prose contest! I'm thrilled to play a part in bringing this wonderful book into the world--congrats, Patrick! It's a stellar manuscript

Writers! Have you ever published in a journal only to see that journal close its pages afterward?
Fear not! Doubleback Review wants your orphaned pieces--prose, poetry, hybrid.
I'm the fiction ed. Feel free to mention this call in your cover letter.

Sam’s dog Scholar is *obsessed* with Star Girl. Here he is being a very helpful editor of the Memory Lane episode. If you missed it live, no worries! It’s coming soon to a streaming platform near you.
In the meantime, turn your sound on for this one. He has perfect pitch 😂
I’m doing moderator prep for an RPG panel for the @UnboundBookFest festival this Saturday and also planning my first ever D&D campaign as the DM, and truly it’s the best intersection of art & life I’ve ever experienced.
I'm gathering resources to include with the promotional materials for my forthcoming story collection. Anyone out there connected with journals that do book reviews?
(This is all hypothetical at the moment: I'm just gathering a list of names and places.)
Do you like gay space shit? Ever had a breakup so bad you wanted to flee the earth? Did you miss out on getting a copy of THE SPACE POET at AWP this year? (It sold out for the third year in a row!)
you can still order it online direct from SLP’s website: https://t.co/7HTqTqachi
@suburbanprairie @splitlippress @barrelhouse@masonjarpress@TBQuarterly Can you confirm the address? The one I’m seeing online is different from the one on the poster—is this the right place?
come see me & Mark Twain at the @Missouri_Review table from
9-11 today!! We have swag, AWP Bingo cards, and lots of information about the mizzou phd program in creative writing! Table 1232!
I’ve heard this before, and I agree. I tend to overwrite—the first draft of my WIP was 120k—and with each pass I make through the ms, it gets shorter (I just got it to 97k words this morning, with still more to lose) AND stronger. It’s a better book for losing the fluff.
#WritingCommunity folks, I’ve been seeing quite a few queries w/ MS word counts that are way too long for traditional publication consideration. It’s so hard to sell a book to a publisher to begin with, but it’s even more challenging to sell books over 100K. Here’s why: a thread.
just sat here thinking about @ChinchillaMusic and seeing her live on @mcflymusic’s tour a few years ago and that was so cool, can we all just agree to go back??
Thrilled to announce that my debut collection, A PREPONDARANCE OF STARRY BEINGS, which tells stories about outer space & our hopeful broken place in it, has been sold to @marisasaystweet with TriQuarterly Books! This is like a dream. ✨💫✨
