@NickAube78373@JoyOnBroad Something to keep in mind is that you must be cap compliant (before LTIR) on day one of the regular season, so they'll need to offload a guy or two, or leverage buyouts. Their defense is absolutely depleted, but they basically lack the cap space to address it now.
@marcrarnone@FlyersNation Problem with that is (at least strategically) is that other teams will know how desperate the Ducks would be to shed money. So they'll probably need to send assets the other way as sweeteners just to intentionally make their team worse.
Totally fucked situation with no leverage.
@B_Sommermann We'll likely have to move a forward or two regardless of if we sign G, just based on the number of forwards we have. I imagine Risto is gone too, and that helps alleviate some. Frankly I'm not too worried. The Flyers have enough depth up front to absorb a couple subtractions
@btc_stackatoshi@ADiMarco25 When you consider the comps on the contracts today vs what they will be in a year from now when the cap is $113.5mil, it might be wise to lock in cost today vs then. Reasonable minds can differ on this of course, but that's no doubt their reasoning.
@anaphoristand@sludgewilliams The bad news is, it's because the average Flyers fan X user will just misinterpret and bad-faith the statements themselves - no media required!
@UserNameVideos@Ywolok Bro in what world was the Bonk pick objectively bad value. We can talk all day about some other 1st rnd picks (Jett, Soko, etc.) as I think there's more nuance there, but Bonk?
@Scuba_Steve161 What motivated them last year was being counted out.
Do I believe Briere actually believes that? Not really. This is likely an example where Briere wants his players to be more motivated to prove the FO wrong. Clearly that worked before (precisely what the '3.8%' montra was)
@UserNameVideos@Ywolok Calling folks who don't take every opportunity to get outraged about the 3rd youngest NHL team that made it to the 2nd rnd of the playoffs "apologists" is def a choice.
@Anth_Chatburn@James_phillyMD It's not a lack of media training - let's call it what it is - it's X Outrage training lol which Flyers X is too toxic rn to avoid.
@AntSanPhilly@OnPattison We're not desperate for middle 6 centers like Bourque. I understand the case that Coots was a more effective as a winger down the stretch, but both Zegras AND Bourque at $9mil is a very expensive middle 6 center group (assuming we can add a legitimate 1C).
@MinkaB6170 Yeah I mean we can't get too picky. He's a top 5 defenseman in the league, and if he becomes available you gotta try, right? That said if Mich goes the other way, then I really don't know how we're supposed to acquire a 1C. Maybe we will just have 4 lines of 2Cs
@AntSanPhilly Problem is we don't officially have that pick to trade, right? It's still technically in Toronto's court to send to us, so unless there's some sort of agreement that Toronto could make with us or on Columbus' behalf that it's earmarked to them, I don't see how this pick is liquid
@justin_palka@Scuba_Steve161 Yes, but we're far from the only team interested in Robinson. Colorado's leverage is pretty irrelevant when we're competing with their offers.
@ByJonBailey Not saying this is enough movement on account of the FO, but not playing a league worst backup for a third of the games this season will help immensely. Woll needs to stay healthy, but if he can, they should have a very good tandem when compared to others in their division.
@Woolman2Tom@NHLFlyers The Flyers won't be up against the cap this year, they have 33mil in cap space. Why not weaponize 1.2mil of that. Plus, I don't know if we can deal Garny to Florida if we didn't retain given their cap situation.
