LA Galaxy had his discovery rights, and I just read that Inter Miami might have paid up to $700k to LA Galaxy for the transfer of those rights or like a compensation to them.

If you don’t know what’s happened. Each club in the MLS can put 5 players on their discovery lists, hence, they hold the discovery rights of those 5 players.

Discovery right is just like saying, I’ll put Kevin De Bruyne on my list, anytime KDB decides to play in the MLS, I’ll have priority in the negotiations. It’s one way MLS keeps the competitiveness between the clubs, especially the small ones.

Casemiro wanted to move to MLS, and LA Galaxy has him on their discovery list, which means they take priority in negotiations, however, he wants to play with Messi. Inter Miami has to negotiate with LA Galaxy, to transfer the discovery rights to them.

This happened with Marco Reus recently when he left Dortmund. Charlotte had him on their discovery list, but Reus wanted to join LA Galaxy. LA Galaxy ended up paying $400k to Charlotte to acquire the rights.

Same thing Inter Miami has probably done.
