Prime Minister Barzani Receives Ambassador of Russia
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday received Elbrus Kutrashev, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Maxim Rubin, Russia’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, both sides reaffirmed the importance of further strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and Russia.
They also discussed recent developments in Iraq and the wider region.
Ambassador Kutrashev noted that the Kurdistan Region holds a special place with the Russian government and leadership, and expressed his country’s desire to further develop ties with the Kurdistan Region.
President Barzani Receives Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq
President Masoud Barzani received Ambassador Elbrus Kutrashev, the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, today, Monday, 22 June 2026, in Pirmam.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Maxim Rubin, the Russian Consul General in Erbil. The discussions focused on the political situation in Iraq and the latest developments in the wider region.
Ambassador Kutrashev commended the positions of the Kurdistan Region’s political leadership and its commitment to restraint amid recent wars and tensions in the region.
The meeting also addressed the situation in Syria, relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the new Iraqi federal government, and the political process in the Kurdistan Region. Both sides also emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and Russia.

President Barzani Receives Delegation from the Canada–Kurdistan Friendship Group in the Canadian Parliament
On Monday, 22 June 2026, President Masoud Barzani received a delegation from the Canada–Kurdistan Friendship Group in the Canadian Parliament at Barzani Headquarters in Pirmam. The delegation included the Hon. Ziad Aboultaif, Member of the Canadian Parliament, and the Hon. Ahmad Hussen, Member of the Canadian Parliament and former Minister of International Development of the Government of Canada.
During the meeting, the delegation expressed their pleasure at meeting President Barzani and praised the resilience of the people of Kurdistan. They also acknowledged the struggle and sacrifices of the Kurdish people, as well as the bravery of the Peshmerga forces in the fight against the ISIS terrorist organization.
The delegation provided a brief overview of the activities of the Canada–Kurdistan Friendship Group in the Canadian Parliament and highlighted its coordination with Kurdish diaspora federations. They also noted the important role of these federations in supporting the Kurdish people. The delegation expressed their desire to further expand friendship and relations between the Kurdistan Region and Canada, particularly in the fields of economy and technology.
For his part, President Barzani thanked the people and Government of Canada for their support and cooperation at various stages, especially their support for the people of Kurdistan and the Peshmerga forces during the war against ISIS. President Barzani reaffirmed his support for strengthening the friendship and relations between the people of Kurdistan and the people of Canada, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts in this regard.
