Worth a watch - reflects the state of many roads here (e.g. to Ikongo), & the ingenuity & resourcefulness of Malagasy people. https://t.co/ovQkKfQZtc
Autumn in #Madagascar ? Wish I could share the choking smell of burning happening right now along miles of the RN25 east of Irondro, including large stretches of reforestation (Lion's club, gendarmerie etc.) planted over many years...
A homemade paraffin lamp... only source of lightning (as well as respiratory problems & eye irritation) for the majority of rural Malagasy families. Excited to be working on solar alternatives!
So many countless cases I've heard of girls and women dying as a result of DIY abortion practices. The additional trauma for rape victims of having to risk their lives again...
Really moved by these photos showing the reality of poverty in remote #Ikongo district, & food insecurity compounded by the #cyclones. Gilles, who is funding 5 boreholes & working alongside our drilling teams to bring clean water, has initiated this appeal https://t.co/8uSnnGEvEi
@KppRPCV Thanks Kristen! Yes donations are welcomed either via the DONATE button on Feedback Madagascar's website, or transfers can be made to our account here (I can be contacted direct for details). We are collating info on the situation in the 4 regions we work, all hugely impacted.
@KppRPCV The devastation in areas we work really is overwhelming. E.g. over 50 deaths in Ankarimbelo municipality alone & over 400 houses destroyed in just 3 of its villages! Roads cut, fields underwater, majority of schools without rroves/walls... help is urgently needed.
@pauljournalism Unfortunately it's getting bad. Major water crisis 2nd year in a row now. People going to as drastic measures as driving 1 hour to Ranomafana to fetch water!!
For 20 years I've bought quality honey from this roadside stall en route to Manakara. But this is the last of their stock... Forests rapidly gone to charcoal, the bees left 2 years ago. & now her Dad has now fled too...

"Currently, 53 percent of children in low- and middle-income countries cannot read and understand a simple story by the end of primary school. In poor countries, the level is as high as 80 percent." In #Madagascar, it is 97 percent. https://t.co/nmgrPOdDx5
@milasoa Unfortunately Jirama don't seem to be very prepared. The Direction de l'Eau called me this morning asking to borrow a motopompe to pump water from Antarambiby reservoir (ours are certainly not adapted to this & are anyway all being used by our borehole teams at the mo)...
Matsiatra River nearly dry. Emergency situation in current dry season in #Fianarantsoa where water levels critical & majority of urban population struggling to find enough water to drink & cook with, let alone wash.
