The Cultural Landscape of #Khinalig and the “Köç Yolu” Transhumance Route joined the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023, recognizing a unique way of life that has been shaped by mountains, migration and traditional knowledge for centuries.

Perched at over 2,000 metres above sea level, Khinalig is one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in the Caucasus. For generations, local communities have preserved seasonal migration routes, pastoral traditions and a unique language spoken nowhere else on Earth.

More than a village, Khinalig is a living cultural landscape where people, nature and heritage have remained closely interconnected across centuries.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation extends its heartiest felicitations to the leadership, Government, and people of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the happy anniversary of their Independence Day (28 May).

This historic Day serves as a powerful reminder of the nation’s firm resolve, defence of sovereignty, and commitment to development. Under its visionary leadership, Azerbaijan continues to scale new heights in socio-economic progress, regional cooperation and connectivity, and global engagement.

Since assuming membership of the Developing-8 Organisation in 2025, Azerbaijan has been making highly valuable contributions to the D-8’s institutional mechanisms and processes. There is no doubt that these contributions would become even more robust in the years to come.

We take this opportunity to wish the fraternal people of Azerbaijan continued peace and security as well as accelerated progress and prosperity. We also reaffirm the commitment to work together to advance the D-8 vision of sustainable development and mutually-beneficial cooperation across the vast D-8 geography.

On #EarthDay, we are reminded that harmony between people and nature is essential to our shared sustainable and prosperous future. On Earth, in society, and in the relationship between #people and #nature, #harmony must prevail — otherwise, humanity will destroy itself. This message was already championed in the XII century through the poetry of #NizamiGanjavi, an outstanding representative of world literature and a great #Azerbaijani poet and thinker.
Today, his homeland carries forward Nizami’s vision through #COP29 and other global, regional, and national sustainability initiatives, and stands ready to address the urban-climate nexus at the next World Urban Forum (#WUF13), to be held in Baku from 17 to 22 May 2026 and to celebrate next World Environment Day on 5 June 2026 in Baku.

Earlier this week a milestone decision was made to establish the #NAM Parliamentary Network’s Headquarters in #Baku 🇦🇿 during the 5th Conference of the Network, which took place alongside the 152nd Session of the #IPU in Istanbul 🇹🇷. With Baku also hosting the HQ of the NAM Youth Organization (@namyouthorg), this move further emphasizes Azerbaijan’s expanding importance as a key center for multilateral diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation among countries of the Global South.

On the margins of the 2026 ECOSOC #YouthForum, the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization (NAMYO) and the National Assembly of Youth Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan (NAYORA), with the support of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, organized a side event under the theme “Rebuilding Safely: The Role of Mine Action in Urban Reconstruction” on 16 April 2026 at United Nations Headquarters.
The Deputy Permanent Representative, Mr. Elvin Ashrafzade, welcomed youth representatives and underscored that ensuring safety is a prerequisite for rebuilding cities. He highlighted the importance of harnessing the potential of young people in advancing effective mine action, particularly through the use of modern technologies.
Mr. Richard Boulter, Chief of Design, Operational Support and Oversight at the United Nations Mine Action Service, delivered a presentation on the challenges of mine action in urban reconstruction, outlining key technical and operational constraints. He emphasized that sustained support, coupled with a clear strategic vision, can lead to tangible progress.
Mr. Elnur Gasimov, Head of the Quality Control Department of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA); Ms. Leyla Hasanova, Chairperson of NAMYO; and Mr. Rafael Hajibayli, Chairman of NAYORA, also delivered remarks, highlighting measures undertaken in their respective capacities. They emphasized the importance of awareness-raising in mine action, strengthened international cooperation, and Azerbaijan’s national efforts in this field.
The event featured fruitful discussions among representatives and youth delegates from Member States, international organizations, academia, and civil society participating in the 2026 ECOSOC Youth Forum.

Youth have always stood at the forefront of protecting international law and defending human rights and dignity. Guided by the core values of the Non-Aligned Movement, respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity of states, non-interference in internal affairs, and the protection of civilian populations - #NAM youth continue to advocate for upholding justice, accountability, and consistent application of intenational law.

The tragedy of #Khojaly of 1992, marked by killings of hundreds of innocent civilians, stands in stark contradiction to the core principles upheld by the NAM youth.

On its 34th commemoration, I call on the international community to uphold its commitment to international law, human dignity, and the prevention of mass atrocities.

As we honor the memory of the victims with profound sorrow, our resolve to advance peace, justice, and humanity remains unwavering.

وقد وقع الوثيقة كلٌّ من رئيس مجلس إدارة مركز تحليل العلاقات الدولية فريد شفييف، ووزير الخارجية المصري الأسبق والسفير (المتقاعد) ورئيس مجلس إدارة المجلس المصري للشؤون الخارجية محمد العرابي.

وتحدد المذكرة الاتجاهات الرئيسية لتعميق التعاون الأكاديمي بين مركزي الفكر.
كما ناقش الجانبان التطورات الجارية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط، إلى جانب قضايا أخرى ذات اهتمام مشترك، وأكدا أهمية تعزيز التعاون مع الخبراء المصريين في إطار المؤتمرات المزمع عقدها
في بلادنا.

ENG: On February 12, 2026, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) and the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA).

The document, signed by Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of the AIR Center, and Mohammed El Orabi, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Ambassador (Ret.), and Chairman of the Board of the ECFA, outlines the principal areas for deepening academic cooperation between the two think tanks.

The parties also discussed developments in the Middle East, as well as other issues of mutual interest, and underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation with Egyptian experts within the framework of conferences planned to be held in our country.
