One of the most anticipated aspects of the Madlanga Commission’s work is the full account surrounding Witness D and the events that followed his death. If the Commission ultimately establishes who authorised his killing and why, it could answer many of the outstanding questions that remain.
I do not believe Witness D was killed solely because of the information he was providing about Emmanuel Mbenze. In my view, there was more to his murder, and I believe the Commission’s evidence will eventually reveal the full picture.

General Mkhwanazi has testified before the ad-hoc committee about the arrest of Sotheni, with the help of a private security company. Sotheni used their gun to carry out the assassination of a witness. Advocate Chaskalson has presented evidence that has raised further questions about the man who was posting with Khan,the one who never opted to go to Milpark Hospital but instead did something permanent and killed himself next to his wife. This man accompanied Sotheni to kill his friend and could not stomach it afterwards. We have also seen the WhatsApp chats between Khan and MO Sayeed showing how he was recruited, and even MO asking Khan to speak to the man he was working for (whose name Advocate Chaskalson redacted). Khan replied that it was fine and that he would tell the man that the deceased was now going to work for MO.

That is why I believe a second presentation of General Khan’s WhatsApp evidence needs to return to the open sessions. It is not as if Khan is going to come back and testify, and this could provide further clarity on issues that remain unresolved. As the President said, this is what they are doing now, hospital and toilet. They are panicking; it has now come to a standstill.
If the Commission finds that there was an attempt to silence a witness or obstruct justice, those responsible must be held fully accountable. If Sotheni has information that could assist the Commission, he should tell the truth. The truth has a way of coming out. They are really panicking badly.

In 1948, 76 beavers were parachuted into the Idaho wilderness as part of a relocation program by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

The program was initiated to address the growing conflict between humans and beavers in areas where people were building homes, such as Payette Lake. The beavers' natural activities, like dam building and tree cutting, were causing problems for the new residents.

The relocation site, Chamberlain Basin, was chosen because it was a remote and suitable location for the beavers to thrive. However, the area was difficult to access due to the lack of roads. The solution was to use surplus parachutes from World War II to drop the beavers into their new home.

A specially designed crate was created to ensure the safety of the beavers during the drop. After several test drops with a beaver named Geronimo, the project was deemed successful and continued until 1948.

As a result, the beavers transformed the landscape into a lush wetland, creating a haven against fire and drought. Their descendants now live in what is part of the largest protected roadless forest in the continental United States.
