UP Government Speeds Up Wetland Conservation

Lucknow, June 29: The Uttar Pradesh government has accelerated wetland conservation under the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2017. So far, 101 wetlands across 26 districts have been officially notified, covering nearly 2,750 hectares, while proposals for 44 more wetlands from 36 districts are under consideration.

The government has also completed scientific boundary demarcation at 14,562 locations across all 75 districts to prevent encroachment. Efforts are underway to secure Ramsar Site recognition for more wetlands, reinforcing the state's commitment to water conservation, biodiversity, and climate resilience.
