Glendale’s century-old Alex Theatre installed its 70mm presentation system six weeks ago, just ahead of the July 17 premiere of #TheOdyssey.
Now the venue, which hadn’t shown a first-run movie for 35 years, has announced it’s the highest grossing theatre in the country for Christopher Nolan’s mythological epic on the film format. https://t.co/6NZ7MvmwrE
Sony is reviving the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. Studio boss Tom Rothman says:
"We are fully committed to theatrical, and this is the Eiffel Tower of that business. It’s sitting there in a derelict state. It was not a good message in the world and a loss of opportunity... Plans are immaculate. The idea is to restore it to its full former glory, although with every state-of-the-art update possible … projection, sound. There will be no food service. It’s going to be gorgeous."

Christopher Nolan says there is a "real problem" with amateur film criticism:
“The criticism that’s often leveled at movies in general is, ‘Oh, the character has to be made sympathetic, so the character is manipulated in different ways or changed in different ways.' And that’s a fundamental flaw of film criticism in a way, or storytelling criticism. Because to be able to identify the mechanism does not invalidate the mechanism." https://t.co/d9bt9ND5h9
