It was 12:30 pm when one of my colleagues approached me asking for advice regarding one of his relatives. She was 12 and suffered from severe malnutrition. He stated that she recently began having hallucinations, and she refused to eat anything. I immediately told him to bring her to the clinic as she lived close.

She arrived 30 minutes after our conversation, an actual skeleton with skin covering it. She was barely able to complete any sentence and kept crying and mumbling incomprehensible words. I ordered a measurement for her vital signs and a quick test for her blood sugar. It turned out her blood pressure, oxygen and sugar were very low. The management process immediately started, and I made calls for an admission at Al-Shifa hospital. The ambulance rushed her to the ER at Al-Shifa but unfortunately she died 20 minutes later.

The cause of death was pneumosepsis caused by her body’s inability to fight the infections as a direct result of her malnutrition. She was a direct victim for the ongoing starvation in Gaza.

This girl used to play with her peers, she had a beautiful soul with many ambitions, but unfortunately she lived in Gaza, the wrecked city which is fighting an army of soldiers with no respect for humanity.
