I’ve heard stories of people leaving mega churches because their pastor is “preaching social justice over the gospel.”
This makes me wonder how many predominantly white mega churches would be mega in size if they consistently preached a gospel that reflected justice.
They told me “God loves all” then they filled their altars excusing America’s racism.
They told me to “preach the gospel” then they joined in on the xenophobia against Muslim and Mexican.
Trumpism isn’t destroying evangelicalism, it’s exposing it.
Time to flip the tables.
I do not believe these are days for mincing words. I’m 63 1/2 years old & I have never seen anything in these United States of America I found more astonishingly seductive & dangerous to the saints of God than Trumpism. This Christian nationalism is not of God. Move back from it.
Holy shit. If Rudolph has to wear a mask then according to the CDC it has to go over his nose which will make it hard for Santa to see. Covid literally is the worst
In the same way Paul was an apostle to the Gentiles, the Church needs apostles to the “American Christians” who are steeped in idol worship, nationalism, racism, sexism, and the like.
The same bible that tells us to "rejoice always" has a book called Lamentations. We don’t have to choose one from the other.
Good, healthy Christian faith is non-dualistic, able to hold multiple tensions together.
So, no one except @chadwickboseman immediate family knew he had cancer? Not even the co stars? In if his co-stars knew, In this age of social media and paparazzi, the fact it never got out is a testament to the character of this man and the respect his peers had for him.
White Supremacy is fundamentally not about KKK and hoods. That’s too obvious.
It's the noxious, insidious and (un)conscious ways that White experience, perspective, and power is prioritized, normalized, internalized, and systematized.
The police brutality we see on videos against Black and Brown people are not simply "isolated events."
They are isolated *documentation* of a pervasive, age-old problem in this country.

Civil religion that uses God’s name to further political power is more of a threat to the gospel than atheism because it offers a form of godliness but is hollow on the inside.
It’s a theologically accurate statement to say that we are all sinners.
It’s a sociologically inaccurate statement to say that our sin has equally perpetuated injustice in the world.
This is why a theological truth can undermine social healing. We lump everyone together.
What if young people are leaving so called gospel-centered churches, NOT because they are drawn away by the world, but because they are not drawn in by the preaching of a diluted gospel message that has nothing meaningful to say to the brokenness we see in the world?
Much of church/family crises and splits occur because people don’t have an environment or culture that normalizes conflict, nor equips people to have difficult conversations.
We often talk to everyone about the problem except the person we need to speak to.
