Delighted to read your statement on that particular instrument of international law now in force which was first initiated under my signature 25 years ago.
“Every grave violation against a child represents a failure of our collective responsibility.”
At the UN Security Council Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict, Amb @LokThapa2071 stated that the promise to protect children in armed conflict is under severe strain amid rising grave violations worldwide.
He reaffirmed that protecting children is not only a moral responsibility, but a legal obligation and a prerequisite for peace, stability, and justice.
He called for strengthened compliance with international law, protection of education and schools from attack or for military use, enhanced accountability and monitoring mechanisms, integration of child protection into peace processes, and increased investment in prevention, diplomacy, and recovery.

Government should take the initiative for developing a national consensus on major FP issues so that, despite ideological differences or competition for political power at home, the nation’s interests and security are not compromised. p. vi.
Nepal’s FP review/reorientation can be done by using the analytical tool of the 3 Is

If leaders/diplomats want change in relations, they must be guided by the goodwill among the people of both sides, for they understand the nature of Nepal-India relations, where if one side gets hurt, the other feels the pain. Nepal India Relations Search for a New Paradigm

A thoughtful and deeply informed piece by Lt General Shokin Chauhan (Retd.)
“Where Borders Connect: Challenges and Opportunities Along the India-Nepal Frontier”
Few understand and appreciate the unique character of #IndiaNepalRelations as he does. Drawing on his experience serving alongside Gorkha soldiers and as Defence Attaché in Kathmandu, he reminds us that the true strength of the India-Nepal frontier lies not in checkpoints or policies, but in its people.
His most important message is that border communities are not merely subjects of Delhi::Kathmandu discussions, instead, they are the real custodians of this relationship and deserve greater development, infrastructure, and a meaningful voice at the policy table.
My key takeaway:- “The future of India-Nepal relations will be shaped in the villages, towns, markets, and communities that straddle this extraordinary frontier” - a powerful conclusion from Lt. Gen Shokin Chauhan (Retd.)

Classic case of what I have been saying and writing for so long about the uniqueness of this relationship ...when one is hurt the other feels the pain...

The India-Nepal Humanitarian Service Corridor: A Story of #NeighbourhoodFirst
When a devastating #fire threatened to engulf the #Galgalia Bhatgaon Border Market in #Bihar, help arrived not from diplomacy or official meetings, but from neighbours.
Responding to an urgent call, firefighters from Nepal’s #Bhadrapur Municipality crossed the border and joined Indian authorities, SSB personnel and local citizens in battling the blaze. Together, they formed a human chain, contained the fire and prevented far greater loss of life and livelihoods.
I pay tribute to Nepali firefighters Kamal Nepal, Uday Sherpa, Satya Rajbanshi, Bikash Sitaula and Bikram Mishra, whose courage, professionalism and humanity exemplify the finest traditions of public service.
Their swift response demonstrated that in moments of crisis, compassion knows no borders.
I respectfully appeal to Hon. Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain to acknowledge and appreciate the extraordinary service rendered by these Nepali firefighters, who risked their own safety to protect lives, livelihoods and a border community in India. @GovernorBihar
This is what neighbourhood first looks like in practice.

well articulated. Nepal and India’s permanent national interests r best served by acknowledging permanent friendship rather than what may have been said and done elsewhere.

I write for The Pioneer: “What India–Nepal Debate Often Misses.”
Civilisational ties and territorial sovereignty are not contradictory but complementary. Boundary demarcation and national interests matter. Equally important is the trust that enables neighbours to resolve difficult questions through dialogue rather than confrontation.
