When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.
@GilesUdy@AnglicanFutures@lambethpalace@ArchbishopSarah If you presume the worst of a brother or sister yes it would. If you think the best of them it might look like people saught to stoke outrage to suit their desired narrative surrounding an appointment.
@MatthewPFirth It isn’t mine/ours to lose neither is it anyones to gain. It is deeply sad this language of competition, ownership and division has come into something once literally defined by its unity and catholicity. But that’s the way of the world so inevitable we/the Church would go there
@MatthewPFirth And Matthew, we both know that 15% claim is at best a distorted figure based a MASSIVE assumptions and at worst a lie because it is clearly a statement designed to mislead. Continuing to peddle it does nothing for you or the wider discussion.
@MatthewPFirth As ever, I’m not sure about that. You push that you are an Anglican bishop equal to other Anglican bishops in authority, influence etc. You rarely if ever name the denomination in which you serve and I think that is because its tiny size limits your ability to be taken seriously.
@MatthewPFirth@MadsDavies I had a look @MatthewPFirth and, depending on where you look, it is between 0.004% and 0.01% of UK Anglicans who attend the Free Church Of England.
@MatthewPFirth@MadsDavies What percentage of anglicans in the UK are in the Free Church of England? Just in case you are on to something about relevance, authority, voice and righteousness being linked to relative size and this can be extrapolated into other situations. Just interested.
Update from the Killing Fields of Sudan:
Maternity hospital massacre leaves 460 dead as patients and staff are butchered; 2,000 civilians were executed in two days. UN resolutions: zero. Protesters in London: couple of dozen. Coverage of Sudan carnage in media: minimal.
Great week at #KESCON25 enjoying all the convention (and town) faithfully offers - and here we are on the lawn outside the old St John’s vicarage where it all started 150 years ago. @KeswickMin thanks for all you do as volunteers and staff.
@MLorenzoFS@charliebelllive Thanks so much, really interesting. Struck that they shrank by 7% in actual attendees when the CofE shrank by 32% (The Times Nov 2024) & TEC 35% (various) in the same time. Praise God there has now been growth but they are doing better than us in the UK in a number of measurables
