Today, the Church remembers Venerable Augustus Tolton.
Father Tolton’s life is a witness to the Church to reckon with its past and to build a future rooted in justice, equity, and the Gospel truth that all people are made in the image of God.

@FrRyanRojo@FrEdwardLooney Welcome, again, to my beautiful home parish, St. Francis Solanus! Hopefully Fr. Arisman is letting you get some rest on your visit!
We pull up to Mass today and it’s packed. I ask my wife why? Is it a big feast day or something?
No, she says, it’s because of Mother’s Day.
Of course.
Mom’s all around the country woke up today and their families asked what they wanted to do…and they answered go to Church.
And I was just immediately brought to tears.
How much we’ve failed as men over the last 50 years.
How many mom’s, despite the weakness of us men, have been the spiritual bedrocks of their families. How souls have been saved by the prayers of their mother. You have carried our Church through these past decades. How indebted we all are to you.
Happy Mother’s Day.
Mary our Mother - thank you.
While in Portugal for World Youth Day two summers ago, I was this close to Pope Francis. His eyes met mine as he was riding around blessing thousands and thousands of people.
This is a moment I will never forget. May he rest in eternal peace.
Ad orientem celebration of Mass:
Catholic Karen: "Why are you turning your back on your people?"
Priest: "I'm leading them in prayer by praying in the same direction as them"
CK: "Isn't that against Vatican II?"
P: The documents of Vatican II do not dictate on this matter.
CK: But I don't like it
P: If you're on a bus would you want the driver to face you or face the destination with you?
