It is crazy how a technology that has the potential to cure cancer, alzheimer's, and who knows what else is so universally hated outside of rich tech.
How did Sama and Dario so thoroughly fumble this?
How did they not see telling everybody they're going to lose their jobs every few months and now we might (👉👈) accidentally kill everyone isn't a winning strategy?
Deepseek is absolutely the third frontier lab. The only difference is OAI and Ant focus on pushing the frontier of intelligence at acceptable efficiency, and Deepseek focuses on pushing the frontier of efficiency at acceptable intelligence
When I created Raspbian for the Raspberry Pi, I was excited to help bring low-cost compute into the hands of a next generation of tinkerers and programmers.
However, I now despair that a Raspberry Pi can cost upwards of $300 because AI shortages are making personal computing unaffordable. Furthermore, bright young people are being discouraged from learning programming because they are being told it is now a commodity skill that AI will do.
I have to ask myself what it was all for. Is this the future we were promised? If so, I'm starting to regret my part in it.
Very funny that xAI was created to stop Anthropic which was created to stop OpenAI which was created to stop Google which would've actually never developed ASI because it was afraid of cannibalizing its ads revenue from search.
what the fuck is everyone's obsession with permanence? no, you should go to a gig, take a few photos, film 15 seconds of one or two songs, and spend the rest of it enjoying and living in the moment. concerts aren't meant to be perpetual they're supposed to exist in the moment
Look, is AI making our lives better? No. But is it making things less expensive? Unfortunately, the opposite. Now, is it making the internet a better place? More slop than ever, actually! But does it allow us to spend more time being creative? That's actually the thing it's best at stealing without shame. Though, surely it's making us smarter, right? You’ll never guess, but…
(tech ceo voice) they say.... the devil is in the details. well, (laughs) not anymore! we got him out of there. he's loose in the world now =) that's right folks the devil is loose in the world, probably forever
