The easiest way to judge growth is by looking at store count, right?

Not necessarily.

According to Jefferies, Blinkit has 2,243 dark stores. Zepto has 1,139.

Almost half as many.

Yet in Q4 FY26, a Zepto store processed 2,071 orders per day.

Blinkit's processed 1,425.

That's the part I find interesting.

Despite operating fewer stores across fewer cities, Zepto is still processing ~2.3 million orders a day. Every store is carrying significantly more volume.

This is what the densification flywheel looks like:
Dense Catchments → Dense Store Network → Shorter Delivery Distances → Lower Fulfilment Costs → Stronger Unit Economics → More Density

Store count tells you how much capacity has been built.
The winner may not be the one with the most stores, but the one getting the most out of each store.

Scale usually slows growth down. Quick comms Q4 FY26 numbers, per Jefferies, suggest otherwise.

Order growth, QoQ:
Instamart 6%, 📈
Blinkit 13%, 📈
Zepto 26% 📈

210M orders in a single quarter, and Zepto still growing roughly 2x faster than the next closest player. That kind of momentum is what's pushing IPO chatter toward the $10B mark.

Worth keeping an eye on whether that pace holds as the base gets even bigger.

Dark stores → Orders per day :

Mar'22: 151 stores, 9K orders/day
Mar'23: 210 stores, 202K orders/day
Mar'24: 337 stores, 496K orders/day
Mar'25: 1,029 stores, 1.37M orders/day
Mar'26: 1,139 stores, 2.33M orders/day

Store count grew, but orders/day grew way out ahead of it, especially in that last year, stores barely moved (1,029 → 1,139) while orders/day still nearly doubled.

That gap is the densification strategy doing its job.

Cash on books: ₹5,680 crore. Debt: zero.

They are making their business extremely efficient at a very fast speed 🚀
