However, those trust where there are audits / proper clinical governance, they tend not to scan >55 unless there is a strong reason.

1- Is there an instability?
2- are these mechanical symptoms including locking?
3- are the symptoms inconsistent with the findings of x-rays? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you may wish to MRI.
