The 500 MW Kundah Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Project in the Nilgiri Hills will act as a giant water battery for Tamil Nadu’s electrical grid. MEIL Group is handling the full electro-mechanical installation for this massive underground facility, which works by shifting water back and forth between the existing Porthimund and Avalanche-Emerald reservoirs.

Inside the underground powerhouse, four 125 MW reversible pump-turbines, motor-generators, digital governors, and 13 transformers are being set up to provide a steady supply of clean energy.

The first day involved a detailed site inspection of core structures, including the Diaphragm Wall, Gaps 1 and 2, and the Earth-cum-Rockfill (ECRF) Dam. The second day focused entirely on quality control, with the panel inspecting clay sources and reviewing the multi-tiered testing protocols for the dam construction.

The MEIL Group engineering team and Water Resources Department officials are working closely with the experts to ensure all ongoing work matches global safety and construction benchmarks.
