Umar Khalid, a PHD scholar and writer, has spent nearly 6 years in jail without his trial concluding.

Meanwhile, Goon Swatantra Bharadwaj, who publicly boasted about cracking the skull (Act of Attempt to Murder) of a Dalit protester’s father, was granted interim bail after around 10 days in custody. The case against him includes provisions of the SC/ST Act, while a separate POCSO FIR has also been registered.

The contrast is impossible to ignore. When years of pre-trial incarceration become normal for one accused, while another receives liberty within days despite serious allegations, we must ask whether the principle of bail, not jail is being applied equally to everyone.

For many Muslims in India, such cases deepen the disturbing perception that identity can influence how swiftly liberty is protected.

हिंदू लीगल फंड नामक एक वेबसाइट ने IPS बुशरा बानो की बंगाल के गृह सचिव से शिकायत दर्ज की थी।

आरोप लगा था कि आईपीएस बुशरा ने सलाम किया, इंशाल्लाह का इस्तेमाल किया और जज़ाकल्लाह कहकर वीडिय�� समाप्त किया।

राज्य सरकार ने बुशरा बानो का तबादला कर दिया और उन्हें राज्य सशस्त्र पुलिस में डिप्टी कमांडेंट के पद पर भेज दिया।

एक नफ़रती TV चैनल ने पहले वो वीडियो सनसनीख़ेज़ बनाकर पोस्ट किया और महिला IPS की ऑनलाइल ट्रोलिंग करवाई गई, राज्य सरकार ने उनका साथ देने के बजाय अगले दिन उनका ट्रांसफ़र कर दिया।
