With deep respect, I remember John Mead Ray, the former Principal of CMS Tyndale Biscoe School, carefully selecting and buying fresh fruits from a vendor at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk often on Sundays. He would then visit the Leprosy Hospital in the city’s Bahrar (Nigeen) quarter to distribute them among the patients . Ray Sahab, as he is popularly known in the Valley, would spend hours with them, sometimes even dressing their wounds. Though I was not his student, as a journalist, I met him a few times and saw in him a true humanitarian who loved every soul. Where are such people now?
