@ndrewwhitehead@samegodfilm Dunno if @MaryVought & Russ were together when Dr. Hawkins stood up to @jerryfalwelljr after he told us, “I’ve always thought that if more good people had concealed-carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walked in," but... https://t.co/gr99lgbBKF

This post has encouraged me to tell an anecdote I’ve never shared with anyone. While the Hawkins affair occurred before I was a professor at Wheaton College, I did indeed have a very personal encounter with these events.
@jtcochran Thank you for this, Dr. Cochran. The silence of so many with so much to say about God and freedom and cancel culture and evangelicals since Dr. Hawkins stood up for Muslims in *rubs eyes* 2015 has been an education. You are an encouragement to me.
@jtcochran@samegodfilm@russvought@Franklin_Graham@WheatonCollege I thank *you* for your witness to and within the institution and...I'm gonna keep hoping it'll bear fruit in the direction of the institution performing a ceremony of apology & repentance for its betrayal in my lifetime. 3/x
@jtcochran@samegodfilm@russvought@Franklin_Graham@WheatonCollege A wise friend noted that...in those days when we thought Wheaton might show institutional courage...Dr. Hawkins was, in one sense, the most publicly brave & significant academic in the world. I count my friendship with her as one of the greatest honors of my life. 2/x
“An increasing number of academics are speaking out about Christian colleges, claiming they were forced out of their jobs because of the rising intensity of conservative politics on campuses.”
I was a deer caught in the headlights for a while. Now I see. https://t.co/nZg26KIIjS
