Organizers of the 2026 Asia Artist Awards announced on September 1 that Kim Soo-hyun had been added to the actor lineup for the two-day ceremony in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on December 5–6, alongside names such as Michieda Shunsuke, Park Ji-hwan, Eum Moon-suk, and Heo Sung-tae.

The news immediately triggered backlash on social media and Korean community sites, with netizens and K-pop fan accounts calling for his removal and urging a boycott of the event.

Critics pointed to the 2025 controversy involving late actress Kim Sae-ron and argued that his presence was inappropriate at a show that also features young female idols and minor artists. Hashtags and coordinated posts targeted Star News and AAA organizers, while some fans of attending groups said they did not want their artists sharing a stage or venue with him.

As of early September 2026, AAA organizers had not publicly addressed the criticism or withdrawn the invitation.
