🚨The @ucas_online deadline is approaching!
Many top unis provide contextual offers, which consider your background. This can reduce grade requirements for students from less advantaged backgrounds.

@mslhthomas@MaxWindCowie I can't see the posts above that you've replied to but sharing this in case it's what you were after :-) https://t.co/wSi6Bcx9CN
Alex was on @LBC earlier this week to explain why raising tuition fees without reintroducing maintenance grants will make universities less and less accessible to working class students

Uni rankings in the news today. But for a different view, here is our @suttontrust social mobility university ranking from a few years ago. Queen Mary top, Westminster second. Generally, Modern unis are very strong for driving mobility. @Rachel_Hewitt_ , relevant for our panel on Sunday!
If fees do go up, we certainly need to do something on maintenance grants for less well off students - who already leave uni with the biggest debts of around £60k, vs. £45k for those from wealthier families.

Social segregation in comprehensive schools: Many schools take fewer disadvantaged pupils than live in their local area, meaning others take more. This polarisation is greater in some areas than others. The NE is the worst region overall. 🧵👇

You can't go to school, unless both your parents work! Would be a ridiculous policy for schools, but it's what we're doing with Early Years. Just 20% of families earning <£20k will have access to the planned expansion, but 80% of those with income >£45k will. 🧵👇
@suttontrust
Early Years should be seen as education, not childcare for working parents! Good to expand provision, but capacity is not the only problem. The current system reinforces inequalities as the poorest households are not eligible for the additional hours as they don’t meet the work criteria.
See @suttontrust briefing for more details on our website.
Great teachers are critical to our young people, and many teachers go above and beyond every single day. @suttontrust we welcome the teacher pay deal as a positive step to recognising the contribution of teachers, and making the profession more attractive. Hopefully this will make it easier to recruit - and we’d like to see extra teachers focused on disadvantaged areas, where gaps are biggest. Extending financial incentives for teachers to work in challenging schools would help!

There’ll rightly be much talk about the need for growth, but the lack of money to fund growth, from @RachelReevesMP today. Reminder that @suttontrust work showed that improving UK social mobility to European average would give a huge GDP boost. How to deliver is in our recent manifesto 👇.

Still finalising our numbers, but looks like we're at around 63% of the new House of Commons having attended comprehensives, the highest on record, and up from 54% in 2019.
Almost three quarters of Labour MPs attended a comp, compared to 42% of Cons in 2019.
