An artist who profoundly questioned why we do what we do. And he provided answers: through the power of example in his work and through his writing. His articulation of what is sacred & unique about theatre was the true north for artists for half a century https://t.co/qEs1dDJFGJ
How bloody beautiful is this 🥲
Jackson Archer, the son of North Melbourne great Glenn, will debut this week - and @NMFCOfficial caught his reaction on video. #AFL
I’ve found Taylor Hawkins’ death like Shane Warne’s. Tragic because premature. But somehow more tragic for the lost exuberance. Both had as much charisma and flair as they did talent and technique. And both clearly loved sharing their gifts with the world. #RIPTaylorHawkins
Fantastic and well deserved international recognition for a great Australian company. Huge congratulations to @Back2BackTheatr https://t.co/m39VL9bATZ
“I never saw the world I knew in books, in movies, in television. That often brutal suburban Australian world that was just outside my window and the magical world secretly growing inside my head.” Can’t wait to see @TrentDalton’s novel on screen https://t.co/SIbmWiYSHq
Hard agree. It’s taken me 20 years to get to it since I first heard it’s opening read in an unorthodox civil procedure lecture. Am mid-way through and loving it. PSA the Miriam Margolyes audio book is a treat in itself.
I know this is hardly obscure, but I’m reading this book for the first time and I don’t think I’ve EVER enjoyed a book more. It’s often laugh-out-loud funny, full of righteous anger, the characters are inexhaustibly enjoyable, and the plotting is just breathtaking.
At some point in the pandemic I stopped reading portraits of the times. And then I was stopped by this. An exquisite piece of writing. “The people who want their lives back are the dead.” https://t.co/q8RTDojwY7
In amongst the many tributes for Stephen Sondheim, it’s amazing how many emphasize his generosity, especially towards future generations of artists. On top of everything else, we’ve have lost a role model for how established artists should behave
& last week, when I wrote him to say his ears must be burning from the countless Sondheim kindnesses being shared from the generations of writers he mentored, he wrote this in reply.
Steve: you repaid your debt to Oscar 1000 times over. We love you. I love you. THANK YOU. -LMM
