Madison-Ridgeland Academy is thrilled to announce Harper Hudnall as the next head coach of the boys basketball team.
Hudnall will take the reins of the iconic program following the retirement of Richard Duease. Hudnall is one of the most respected assistant coaches in the MAIS.
Hudnall has spent four seasons on Duease’s staff and served as the junior high head coach where his teams won the championships in 2025 and 2026. Hudnall played as an MRA Patriot from 2013 through 2016 for Richard Duease, leading MRA to two MAIS overall titles in 2014 and 2016. He was the starting point guard and tabbed All-MAIS in 2016.
After his playing career, Hudnall returned to MRA to begin his coaching career and has spent the past six seasons on the Patriot basketball staff, including two seasons under Head Coach Stephen Force and four seasons under legendary Coach Duease. During that time, the Patriots captured the 2023 MAIS 6A State Championship and the 2026 MAIS 4A and Overall State Championships.
“Simply put, Harper Hudnall is MRA,” said Athletic Director Ross Hailey. “His family moved to Madison in 2010 where he enjoyed an outstanding career as a multisport student-athlete. His blood, sweat and tears are in these hardwoods. As a player and now head coach, Harper has been learning from and been mentored by the very best in Coach Richard Duease. He is a teacher and mentor in his own right, passionate about the student-athlete experience, both on and off the floor. Harper knows what it takes to achieve excellence. He’s a champion.”
Coach Hudnall’s experience as both a championship player and coach at MRA makes him uniquely prepared to lead the program forward. We are excited for the future of Patriot basketball under his leadership and look forward to the continued growth of our student-athletes both on and off the court.
“This program has meant so much to me, and I’m honored to now help lead it into its next chapter.” said Hudnall
Hudnall and his wife, Carley, have one daughter, Elizabeth, who will turn one in June.
Two dudes that were both Big East Player of the Year and All Americans yet both slipped to the second round because they were
• Too Small
• Too Unathletic
• Too Old
• Didn’t test well enough
This is exactly why you can NEVER count out a WINNER or a DOG
