Current odds for Alabama to get into the playoff… trending heavily in Alabama’s favor. Starting to think if Clemson beats SMU, Alabama will still have a decent chance of jumping SMU.
Here’s what Alabama needs to make the 12 Team College Football Playoff in 2024:
Teams locked in College Football Playoff no matter what happens in next week’s Conference Championship games:
-Oregon
-Ohio State
-Texas
-Penn State
-Notre Dame
-Tennessee
-Indiana
Winner of these Conference Championship games earn bye (or position) into College Football Playoff:
-Arizona State/Iowa State (Bye)
-Clemson/SMU (Bye)
-UNLV/Boise State (G5 conference Highest Rank earns position)
This leaves the following potential 6 teams for the College Football Playoff:
- Alabama
- Georgia
- Miami
- South Carolina
- Clemson
- SMU
Alabama MUST have the following to still have the chance to get in the CFP in Tuesday’s selection:
- MUST - Need the Playoff Committee to drop Miami behind Alabama following the loss to Syracuse and no wins against a ranked team
- MUST - Need the Playoff Committee to keep Alabama ranked over South Carolina, valuing Alabama’s win over South Carolina
- MUST - Alabama remains ranked ahead of Ole Miss
If the above happens,
Scenario 1:
- SMU wins ACC Conference Championship (regardless of SEC Championship outcome), Alabama would be IN the CFP
Scenario 2:
- Clemson wins ACC Conference Championship AND Texas wins SEC Conference Championship, this would leave 2 playoff spots open between the following teams:
- Alabama
- Georgia
- SMU
Scenario 3:
- Clemson wins ACC Conference Championship AND Georgia wins SEC conference Championship, this would leave only 1 playoff spot open between the following teams:
- Alabama
- SMU
