@SueIeraci I think EDs and ED docs are at least partly responsible. Offering a free 24hr service with lots of tests and no real triage and primary care referral is bound to fail eventually, even with massive resources. Make EDs ambulance only and get urgent PHC back in the picture.

Medicare needs to acknowledge the difference between seeing a sick kid in a city centre compared to a sick kid 500 kms from a hospital. Then we need accreditation for managing urgent care in primary care.

Urgent primary care being managed by ED Physicians is wasteful and increases perception of need for tests and high level care. GPs have largely withdrawn from after hours care in this climate. @brookmanknight The proportion of GPs in the BMA memorial is about 40%. I can't find any other data, but I am sure there is somewhere. The hospital doctors were not working in the roles I would expect. This is not going away with 65% effective vax. GP role is risky and important.
