MEGA: How Creativity Shapes Everything - A Framework for Flourishing
We need a more nuanced definition of creativity. One that acknowledges the inherent creativity in all people and all domains. Creativity shapes everything: it is the culture changer, the wealth creator, the liberator of human potential and expander of agency.
For the past two years I've been researching the creativity literature and history's great creative figures (and many other sources) to write a new book on this topic.
Karl Popper said "all life is problem-solving". Creativity is how you solve problems - in business, the arts, science, and any sphere of living.
Part practical, part philosophical, part scientific - it's a difficult book to describe. I'm very proud of it, and I find that I keep referencing the framework & ideas in my own creative life. I wrote this book for myself, and that's the best aim in creative work I think.
Out in mid-2025, a brief outline below:
--
Part 1 introduces the MEGA acronym, the MEGA phases, the distinct kinds of creative work:
- Motivation (problem and domain selection - why you should find work aligned to your purpose and talents and preferences, why weird is good, and freedom is essential)
- Exploration (idea and materials and skill selection - assimilating knowledge and practising skills, curiosity-driven learning, context framing, finding fuel, question-asking, map-making)
- Generation (solution generation or "dream selection" - novel & original output, discovering new points in search space, embracing constraints, divergent thinking, map-changing, Borges Spaces, recombinatory magic)
- Amelioration (solution selection - honing/converging output, iterating, finishing, feedback)
--
Part 2 looks at meta-creativity. The process pieces that set you up for success:
- Practices (routines, environment, prompts, good health - for consistency, sustainability, enjoyment)
- Protocols (navigating the MEGA phases, becoming unstuck, collaborating, rest & play, levels)
- Production (why you should be prolific, on production functions, keeping momentum, quality from quantity)
- Prosperity (experiments of living, reinvention, wealth creation, MEGA AI, connected living)
Throughout the book, I reference strories and quotes from great artists, scientists, musicians, engineers, writers, entrepreneurs, and many other notable creative figures. These are my exemplars.

If you seek more engagement with your work and life, a better understanding of creativity can help you inordinately.
This book has been great fun to write.
I hope people will read it! :)

@DrNicoleC Following for your ED content as someone who recently recovered from anorexia, but also recently qualified as a doc so very interested in the professional path you took to help people with ED's 😁
@hubermanlab I think it's the combination of these two mechanisms that is what can cause sudden cardiac arrest in those with long QT syndrome type 1. Just something to keep in mind if there's a family history of sudden death/ personal history of syncope with exertion, etc😊
@DrNicoleC @aed_iced Hey there! This is so cool. I am a junior doctor, recently qualified and would love to specialise in eating disorders in the future but have no idea how to go about it. Any tips?😁
@Rainmaker1973 Hi! I think you blocked my husband's account by mistake (maybe you thought he was a bot 😅), would you mind please unblocking him? He absolutely loves your content, as much as I do 😊 he is @AJohnBotha
