Difficult to wrap my head around how much the nutrition element of MAHA has been little more than propaganda to support this bill and its tax cuts for billionaires.
Maybe a dystopian viewpoint but the narratives over the past several months - criticisms of SNAP purchasing restrictions, fearmongering about sugar/seed oils in infant formula (a major element of WIC), overstating the harms of food additives and hyping up wearables - all come together to create the appearance of a dedication to wellness and reinforce a narrative of personal responsibility about health that distracts from addressing underlying systemic issues, making it all the more easy to justify cutting Medicaid and food assistance programs without significant pushback.
Are we making America healthier?
@ZohranKMamdani Love this vision! I hope you will also support existing corner stores trying to provide healthier options for their community. Corner stores lack the buying power to purchase in bulk at affordable prices, but creating purchasing collectives could help! 🫐🥬https://t.co/XQOfFcg17f
Let’s talk US food supply. Right now, a quarter of our nation’s food comes from California, which is running out of both land and water. 🌵🧵

thanks @washingtonpost for including my comment about why consumers deserve better than a traffic-light inspired FOPL (and i promise what me and bernie sanders appear to have against gatorade is nothing personal!)
“What would you do if you pulled up to a stoplight and all three colors were signaling at once?”
We analyzed common snacks to show how packages might look with proposed US front-of-package labels vs. with Chilean warning labels . Read in @washingtonpost:

Companies trying to reduce GHG emissions from cattle is unequivocally good.
But the carbon neutral claims are bullshit.
@evanhalper and @lreiley report.

Pro-lifers don't like complexity. At 17 weeks my placenta detached and he was much too small. I thought I felt my baby's frantic attempts to breathe. My OBGYN advised me to terminate the pregnancy, there wasn't much time. But I couldn't.
A US woman on vacation in Malta was denied a life-saving abortion needed after her water broke at 16 weeks.
Experts say it’s a glimpse into what is to come in the US.
Here’s what happened.👇

NO MATTER WHAT those dorks @ the Supreme Court say about abortion — you (yes, YOU!) can get abortion pills mailed to you no matter where you live.
Mifepristone + Misoprostol 💊 💊
@AidAccessUSA does “advanced provision” which means you don’t have to be pregnant to get them!
Nearly 10 months into the Texas abortion ban, women have started having the babies they never planned to carry to term.
I got to know Brooke Alexander — an 18-year-old in Corpus Christi who wanted an abortion, and now has twins. https://t.co/jMsZIn5Cqe
Today, it was announced that Starbucks intends to close their chapter at the College Avenue location. This is a flagrant instance of illegal union busting against workers who had the courage to demand better hours and safer working conditions.
#collegeavestrong#shameonstarbucks
If you're not local, you may not get why this is shocking.
The College Ave location may be the single most prime property in all of Upstate NY.
Over 15,000 pedestrians cross it every day. There's no way it isn't profitable. This looks like union busting #ShameOnStarbucks
It’s long past time we take action to end the scourge of gun violence in America.
As president, I’ll ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, implement universal background checks, and enact other common-sense reforms to end our gun violence epidemic.
On Tuesday my mid child will be 6.5 years old.
I will be exactly 6 months away from paying off my 20% portion of her $1.2mil birth.
We can't be deciding as a country to force carrying pregnancies when we wont provide insurance that covers the cost.
