A black day for Somalia. During today's parliamentary session, a couple of concerning observations caught my attention. Firstly, the speaker's announcement of 254 Members of Parliament present, despite the parliament only having 210 seats, was blatant misinformation. This kind of falsehood erodes the credibility and trustworthiness of democratic institutions, which rely on transparency and honesty to uphold the public's faith in their operations.
Additionally, the lack of adherence to parliamentary rules and procedures was evident throughout the session. The speaker hastily called for a vote and proceeded to announce passing the constitutional amendments without proper count. This disregard for established protocol reflects a worrisome lack of accountability and professionalism within the current parliament. Such actions not only undermine the sanctity of parliamentary proceedings but also the unity of the country as a whole.
