कल दिल्ली में हुई घटनाओं से मन ���ुखी भी है और गर्व से भरा भी।
हमारे युवाओं और Gen-Z ने साबित कर दिया है कि वे दूसरे देशों के मुकाबले कितने अलग हैं। लाठी और आंसू गैस के बीच संयम, आक्रोश के साथ अहिंसक बर्ताव और दुख में साहस तथा संकल्प - यह भारत के डीएनए की ताकत है। ये बच्चे किसी बहकावे में नहीं आए हैं, वे हमारे अपने बच्चे हैं और देश के भविष्य की बागडोर संभालने वाले हैं। पुरानी पीढ़ी तो सिर्फ कुछ सालों के लिए केयरटेकर भर है।

हमें अब पारंपरिक राजनीति से ऊपर उठकर 'करुणामय शासन' (Compassionate Governance) की आवश्यकता है। करुणा दया या सहानुभूति नहीं, बल्कि दूसरों की पीड़ा को अपनी तकलीफ की तरह महसूस करके संवाद बनाना और निष्पक्ष समाधान निकालना है।

जब मैं दुनिया भर में करुणा के वैश्वीकरण (Globalisation of Compassion) के लिए कार्यरत हूँ, तो अपने देश की सरकार और समाज से भी यही अपेक्षा करता हूँ कि वे इन बच्चों के साथ तुरंत करुणामय संवाद और समाधान का मार्ग अपनाएं।

आज विश्व पुस्तक दिवस पर आप सबको शुभकामनाएँ। 1975 में मैंने अपनी पहली पुस्तक लिखी और प्रकाशित की थी। तब मैं 21 साल का था और विदिशा में रहकर इंजीनियरिंग की पढ़ाई कर रहा था। पुस्तक का शीर्षक "वर्तमान संदर्भों में आर्य समाज" था। वह साल आर्य समाज आंदोलन का शताब्दी वर्ष भी था। पुस्तक में पांडित्य नहीं, बल्कि समाज परिवर्तन के विचारों की व्याख्या थी। इसलिए मैं सोचता था कि वह पुस्तक ज्यादा से ज्यादा लोगों तक पहुँचे।

उसी साल दिल्ली में आर्य समाज का अंतरराष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन होने वाला था। मेरे पास तो 10 पुस्तकें छापने के पैसे भी नहीं थे, लेकिन भरोसा था कि मेरी पुस्तक हजारों की संख्या में बिकेगी। मैंने किसी तरह हाथ-पैर जोड़कर अपने एक परिचित छापाखाने वाले को, उधारी में  5000 पुस्तकें छापने को राजी कर लिया। मैं तो 10000 छपवाना चाहता था। मेरे मित्रों ने और मैंने उन्हें समझाया कि दिल्ली के महासम्मेलन में पुस्तक बिकने के बाद तत्काल सारा पैसा लौटा दिया ज���एगा।

अब समस्या आ गई कि यह किताबें दिल्ली कैसे पहुंचाई जाएं और वहां उन्हें कहां और कैसे बेचा जाएगा, क्योंकि हमारे पास कोई दुकान तो थी नहीं। मैंने अपने एक मित्र प्रकाश सोनी और भतीजे दिनेश को पुस्तकों के बंडल लाद कर ट्रेन से भिजवा दिया। उनके किराये भाड़े का खर्च एक मित्र महिपाल सिंह ने उठाया। ��म्मेलन में वैदिक और आर्य समाज साहित्य की ढेरों दुकानें लगी थीं, लेकिन कोई भी हमारी वह पतली सी किताब अपने यहां रखकर बेचने के लिए राजी नहीं हुआ। उन्हीं में पंडित भारतेंदु नाथ जी के प्रकाशन की दुकान भी थी।

अंत में मेरे साथी टाट पट्टियां बिछाकर मेले के कोने-कोने में चिल्ला-चिल्ला कर पुस्तक बेचने लगे। उन्होंने वहीं खुले मैदान में किताबों के बंडल पर सोते-जागते रात गुजारी। पहले दिन तो थोड़ी ही प��स्तकें बिकीं, लेकिन अगले कुछ दिनों में लगभग पूरी की पूरी बिक गईं। तब तो प्रकाश और दिनेश के मजे आ गए। वे पास के एक छोटे से होटल में जाकर रुके और उम्दा भोजन करने लगे।

हमने तुरंत प्रिंटिंग प्रेस वाले की उधारी चुका दी और बाद में उसी से और भी पुस्तकें छपवाते रहे।

हम साधारण लोग ईश्वर का अवतार और मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम तो बन नहीं सकते। इतना अवश्य है कि अन्याय और अत्याचार का रोना रोने या उपदेश देने की बजाय, उन्हें मिटाने के लिए कुछ तो कर ही सकते हैं!

My deep gratitude to the Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant Ji, for launching 'Karuna - The Power of Compassion'.
His reflections on the transformative role of compassion in the judicial system will undoubtedly serve as a guiding light for the Indian Judiciary. In his words, “Compassion is the conscious effort to ensure that legal processes respond meaningfully to human consequences while remaining firmly anchored in principle.”
I was delighted to engage in a meaningful conversation with my dear sister Dr. Kiran Bedi Ji and was honoured by the gracious presence of Hon’ble Justice AK Sikri Ji, a stalwart of compassionate Justice.
As always, it is deeply heartening to see so many of you resonate with the philosophy and power of compassion, and to witness your shared belief in its capacity to transform individuals, communities and society at large.
