@arash_tehran I don’t get it. You’ve written a very nuanced piece, Arash — and have clearly underlined it is quite impossible to grasp/quantify every sentiment there is

Just to clarify: this isn’t just the first time since WW2 that all incumbent parties in developed countries lost vote share.
It’s the first time since this data was first recorded in 1905. Essentially the first time in the history of democracy (universal suffrage began in 1894).
When President @realDonaldTrump takes office in January 2025, the #Iran his administration will face will be, relative to four years earlier, weaker on several fronts, and changed on several others. 🧵
Iran & Israel have exchanged direct strikes twice this year - in April, and in October.
For both sides, the second round was a step up: Less telegraphed and more substantial from the IRI, and from Israel far more sweeping in its targeting.
Now, a third round seems to beckon.🧵

In Iran, a student harassed by her university’s morality police over her “improper” hijab didn’t back down. She turned her body into a protest, stripping to her underwear and marching through campus—defying a regime that constantly controls women’s bodies. Her act is a powerful reminder of Iranian women’s fight for freedom. Yes we use our bodies like weapons to fight back a regime that kills women for showing their hair.
This happened at Tehran’s Science and Research University She has since been arrested by the authorities.
Be her voice.

“Ultimately, Israel remains in control of the escalation and could decide to press home its advantage. Today Netanyahu is the only Middle Eastern leader doing as he wishes, even as he watches others, including the US, concede and adjust.”

This Israeli response (so far) seems somewhere in the mid-range of what it could have conducted - considerably more robust than its response back in April, but not going as far as targeting key infrastructure or nuclear sites. The key questions now are:
- whether this is the full scope of its response?
- whether Tehran will absorb the hit and try to draw a line under this exchange or up the ante again with a counter-response.
Iran's state television may be the only news channel in the world that on the morning after the country has been attacked broadcasts "an ordinary day" with reporters covering traffic, vegetable markets and the weather.
