A September 2025 report from the Planetary Health Check revealed that humanity has now breached seven of the nine planetary boundaries, pushing Earth further into a "danger zone" of increasing risk.
The end days are coming
Phytoplankton in rapid decline
The tiny marine creatures responsible for nearly half of our oxygen and absorb huge amounts of carbon
Transport of Vital nutrients on which phytoplankton depend are being blocked as upper ocean warms

ICYMI: catastrophic 73% average decline in wildlife populations likely to be followed in the next 5-10 decades by the extinction of up to 30-40% of all species on Earth or even 50-60% or more. Industrial capitalism is one of the most destructive forces the planet has ever seen.
@ShaperSyris just read your article on Scientific American. One doubt, won't this wood burial affect the recycling of carbon back to soil achieved through composting of the wood? Large scale removal and burial may adversely impact the forest ecology.
What-a-day, to be head-on competing against Elevenlabs, Apple and Google..
When I woke up today, I imagined to be the top launch of the day but post launch we have been laging behind the magnificient 7 by a bit.
I need your support to compete against the biggies of tech, link in the comment....
Humanity's true situation is surreal in the extreme. Most people will just dismiss it out-of-hand because it bears no relation whatsoever to their own understanding.
100ppm CO2-equivalent caused 7 degrees C of global warming during the last deglaciation.
Humans have now added a further 293ppm CO2e to the atmosphere.
This causes 10 degrees C of global warming as a requirement of physics.
The planet must warm by 10C in order to restore energy equilibrium, ie. as much energy radiated as absorbed.
So far, 1.4C (multiyear average) of the 10C requirement has been incurred.
Most of the required warming materialises on a century timescale.
The public is not yet alerted to the staggering enormity of future warming because global warming is slowed by the enormous thermal inertia of oceans, the very long timescales required for amplifying feedbacks to respond to warming, and the massive buffering effects of particulate air pollution.
Deep sea mining is one of the biggest mistakes and biggest crimes ever inflicted by humans on nature
It will fuel even more warming and disturb a critical carbon sink such as Benthic bacteria that sequester 200 million tons of carbon dioxide into the biomass on an annual basis
'Shocking': Global Glacier Ice Loss Accelerates by 36% in Last Decade
On average 273 billion tonnes of ice are being lost per year – equivalent to the world population's water consumption for 30 years
Billions could lose their access to fresh water

At the UN General Assembly, Colombia's President Petro reminds the world that "Latin America was invaded several times by the same people that are now talking about fighting invasions" in Ukraine. He asks why the U.S. has billions of dollars to wage war, but not for anything else
I am still looking for a #postdoc to join the project. Request folks to please share with their network - need your help to get the word out. Will be extending the deadline for the postdoctoral position. They can email/DM me for details.
