What happened to crash a massive sell off in the markets?

The stock market fell following the FOMC meeting, as the S&P 500 $SPX was down 3%, the Nasdaq $QQQ was down 3.6% and small caps $IWM were down 4.4%. The Federal Reserve announced it plans to cut rates twice in 2025, not three times as some expected, and provided limited clarity on why cuts are being considered now despite rising inflation. Jerome Powell explained the Fed's decision to cut despite rising inflation, stating, "Downside risks to the labor market have diminished, but it is looser than pre-pandemic and is clearly still cooling further." The FOMC median 2025 PCE inflation forecast rose to 2.5% vs 2.1%, implying the Fed believes there will be more inflation in 2025.
