People use LLM agents to interact with (access/modify) their system and external services. We (@bimalrajgyawali, @samkumar_cs, and Sai) think this can be a bit dangerous 💣⏲️💥 so we wrote a paper (https://t.co/WaclwqHWOG) on system guardrails for such agent-driven interactions!
Excited to share that our paper, “High-Level Programming for Application Networks,” has been accepted to #NSDI '25! This marks the first step in realizing our vision for Application Defined Networks (ADN).
More details in the thread!
I am recruiting PhD students to join my research group! If you're interested in systems or security (including intersections with cryptography, datacenters, AI, etc.), then please apply to UCLA Computer Science (@UCLAComSci) and list me on your application as a potential advisor.
I'm on a plane, and my flight is delayed for over 2 hours. Why? First, they had to replace a seat belt. But their computer didn't recognize the new part number, so they have to replace the entire seat before the plane is allowed to move. The computer made things less efficient...
It’s an honor to have been recognized as a Runner-Up for the @TheOfficialACM SIGSAC Doctoral Dissertation Award at CCS 2024 (@acm_ccs)!
I’d like to thank my nominator and letter writers for this award, and my advisors, mentors, and collaborators during my PhD.
📢 @UCLAComSci is hiring! Open to all CS areas!
- Multiple Tenure-track Assistant Professor Positions: https://t.co/9I7DjDHNr7
- Open Rank Teaching Professor Position: https://t.co/8U99f7jX90
(We hired 11 Assistant Professors in the past two years ...)
This was a fun project! Developing the reading list as senior grad students, we got to re-read classic systems papers with a fresh perspective. And I'm glad that junior grad students at @Berkeley_EECS now have a more up-to-date reading list introducing them to systems research.
Proud of what we came up with. The new Berkeley OS prelim balances breadth with depth by connecting key modern advances to ideas introduced in older papers.

I've wrapped up my postdoc and just moved down to Los Angeles. I'm super excited to start at UCLA CS (@CS_UCLA)! Today is my first day working in person at the @UCLA campus.
In the meantime, I am joining the Allen School at the University of Washington (@uwcse) as a postdoc in the FOCI Center, supervised by Arvind Krishnamurthy (@arvind_uw) and Ratul Mahajan (@ratulm)!
Join us in welcoming five new faculty to @UCLA's Computer Science Department (@CS_UCLA). Blaise Pascal-Tine, Saadia Gabriel, Sam Kumar, Eunice Jun and Remy Wang will each bring a unique expertise to the department. #EngineerChange

Our paper on Skyplane has been accepted to NSDI 2023! We show how to use network overlays to optimize inter-region bulk data transfer in the cloud.
Our paper is now available on arXiv: https://t.co/M3it31W62D
Our research artifact, Skyplane, is open source (see below).
This year's RIOT Summit will take place in #Hamburg @inf_haw_hh and virtual. Do you want to present something? Submit https://t.co/quX8W6KRCl and join our speakers list https://t.co/5GZ9HyXdql #IoT#openSource#operatingSystem
@pschafhalter I feel that this is highly dependent on the type of data. When I worked in a research group working with energy sensors that produced thousands of floating-point measurements per second, we built our own special-purpose database, BTrDB, and visualization tool, Mr. Plotter. (1/2)
