it’s so quintissentially american that omaha’s sleek new library is buttressed on either side by a five lane arterial street, a massive parking lot and a strip mall
In this segment, David Levy of Baird Holm joins Jeff Beals and Trenton Magid to break down the Omaha streetcar, explain how the financing structure works, update Crossroads redevelopment and discuss the proposed Union Omaha stadium district in north downtown. americans really spend 4 years in a walkable community (college), say “wow, those were truly the best years of my life. oh well!” and then proceed to buy a house & car in the middle of a suburbanite hellscape
Please for the love of god let’s do the same in Omaha. So many of our streets, especially in the urban core, are super overbuilt. We could easily reallocate space for protected bike lanes, bus lanes, wider sidewalks, or green infrastructure without causing any traffic problems.
In my opinion, more than 75% of every urban planning, architecture, and landscape architecture program today should focus on “SPRAWL REPAIR”.
The work is endless.
And virtually nobody is teaching it.
