Such fertile soil is pain
it grows integrity and resentment

With you I only wore my heart
as it was in the moment,
Stripping off the pain
that coat I had hidden within
reminding me to keep shielded
till I found it didn't let me
be seen, be with you

some poets
take these clothes
made of hurt and pain
and drenched in response
and wring out the tears
till the ink runs in lines
across pages and meme
yet I'm documenting
their removal is a step
on a path to freedom

Why would I linger on
their sight and what was
when the pain I want to
leave in the past where
it can always be found
Why bring it into a now
that can be shared
without keeping that
past so close
