The results are in, the members of the American Sociological Association have spoken:
THE ASA MEMBER RESOLUTION FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE HAS PASSED!!! 🇵🇸❤️
We are so deeply grateful for you all. Onwards to a free Palestine!
Lots of folks are trying to figure out what generative AI means for teaching. Catherine Yeh and I wrote a little piece to help demystify and provide sociological context. It will be out in Contexts soon(ish), but until then, the preprint is here. https://t.co/SEA0qIwJcz

@JohannaMellis 2018 grantee here and also found the archives and archivists to be very helpful for my dissertation research! Also, I agree: Lausanne is stunning
@Shugars I do this by setting up a "rule" for the assignment group (on Assignments page) to drop the lowest grade(s). You have to enter a 0 if they don't complete a post, but it will be dropped accordingly. Find the option by editing the assignment group. Students can see the rules.
🧵In Houston, freeway widening will demolish hundreds of homes in the primarily Black & Latino neighborhoods Independence Hts. & Near Northside, building on decades of the gov't using highway construction to segregate cities & destroy communities of color.

@SDylanEwing@jgeneric Also, my research & others' show the importance of fighting against these kinds of mega development projects as early as possible. Often, by the time the public learns details or waits until things are more official, it's too late to meaningfully influence stuff.
@SDylanEwing@jgeneric 👋. Yes, @jgeneric but important to note that Walsh pulled the plug only after anti-Olympics groups successfuly flipped public opinion against Boston 2024.
Boston 2024's boosters often talked about London 2012 as a model, despite it going billions of dollars over budget. A decade after the Games, it's clear that London 2012 was also a failure as an exercise in city planning and building. https://t.co/TSnSkRZxKG #mapoli
Yes! My courses are FULL of discussion, but they are not free-for-all "debates." I constantly encourage students to draw on their experiences, but the goal of talking it out is understanding the theory and evidence.
Who keeps telling people they should go to college to debate? Part of The Problem is the framing of college this way. Your average undergrad course shouldn't be a place for *debate* where you speak your opinion and try to persuade other people that you're right.
Your annual reminder that Dr. King believed in guaranteed universal basic income that gave all people a dignified life, guaranteed housing for all, guaranteed access to a high quality education, & said that “no one should be forced to live in poverty while others live in luxury.”
