Missouri passed a law that goes into effect Jan. 1, 2023, which makes it a felony to sleep on state-owned land, like under overpasses and bridges. At a time when rent is skyrocketing it’s horrifying to see states respond not by providing housing but by criminalizing the homeless.

in my research for it though i did find some incredible policies and resources that other universities have to prevent drugging. these coasters from DrinkSafe are 85 cents each and test for the two most common drugs, ketamine and GHB, and other foreign substances.

after that experience in the hospital I tried to write a story about the lack of access to testing kits and other resources for victims of these things, MU Health Care’s PR was fine but overall pretty unhelpful and I hit a bit of a dead end. maybe now I’ll try again 🤨
