With permission from the victim, I want to share the details of the incident reported below for awareness and help keep everyone safe—not to scare you, but to emphasize the importance of vigilance.

Specific details regarding the exact building at this time have been eliminated:

It involved a group of teenagers. I heard some of the girls in their group saying “No, not him. Not him.” Three males from the group approached me, making random comments. One asked what I had in my pockets. When I said I had nothing and was just trying to get home, he punched me in the right side of my head. Another struck the left side of my neck, causing me to stumble into the bike lane, and the third kicked me in the back while I was down. I managed to get up and run away, and they did not follow. I called the police when I was safely back home. I’m relieved it wasn’t worse. I’ve lived in this area for four years and had never experienced anything like this, especially in that location.

Please remember to report any violence you encounter, and whenever possible, walk with friends. Looking out for each other makes a difference.
