A great piece by @JamesMartinSJ as we enter into #PrideMonth (and re-shared by some local Catholic Jesuit high schools including @BellarmineBells). Thank you Father, and keep up the good work! https://t.co/EfLrR1yShs and a shorter piece: https://t.co/QjEb3n7uv7
State Sen. Nathan Dahm (R-OK) has penned several bills loosening gun restrictions, including the nation’s first anti-red flag law. He thinks these bills protect the Second Amendment – and that they make us safer. We think it's probably one or the other. Watch it on @AppleTVPlus.
News: The editors of @The_Tablet, the UK's leading Catholic journal: "There is a widespread feeling, not just among gay Catholics, that the Church’s traditional teaching on homosexuality is unsatisfactory." https://t.co/McXdnK9P7y… https://t.co/HdMKClqJ1f
@JamesMartinSJ And yes yes, I'm aware that the intended message is something else. Just happen to believe God speaks between the lines sometimes, & we sometimes hear the message we need to hear. Oh, and for those who see my comment & proclaim "hell!": thanks for the guidance. Agree 2 disagree.
@JamesMartinSJ As in, "Person A believing Jesus wants/says one thing (negative) & (wrongly) uses that as a weapon against Person B. So, Person B is victim. In a way, an apology/embrace. As a gay kid in HS, that alt. message would hit me, & I can't help but still choke up every time I sing it.
News: I'm happy to share with you this warm letter from Pope Francis, received this morning, in response to our mailing him a copy of the Outreach 2022 brochure. We're grateful to the Holy Father for his support and his prayers. English translation here: https://t.co/NT5AjHFhqE
@Haus_PauLisa@JamesMartinSJ Agreed. Wariness is in response to statements & leaders speaking as if the church (theology, hierarchy; or “Faith”) is a timeless, unchanging monolith of theology & structure. Although slowly, it continually moves, learns, changes, stumbles (lots of stumbling), & strives.
@Haus_PauLisa@JamesMartinSJ Figured I might offer an applicable re-phrase? “Emboldened theocrats are most often wrapped up with intentions, finances, and means to the ends that are incompatible with the full and centuries-long gradual development of the understanding of the Faith.”
Gospel: When Jesus sees people who are hungry, thirsty or struggling, the Gospels tell us that his first reaction is ἐσπλαγχνίσθη (esplanchnisthē). The usual English translation is "his heart was moved with pity," but the original Greek is stronger: he felt it in his bowels..
I say this with all the respect you deserve: STFU.
People are dead because we have too many guns and too little regulation. You and I have jobs where we can fix that.
If that sounds like "partisan dribble" to you, maybe you ain't cut out for this line of work.
Awful awful awful. Beloved Philadelphia.
I'm heartbroken over this country's stupid, venal and evil unwillingness to reduce gun violence and save lives. The Supreme Court's idiotic ruling is just the latest contribution to this culture of death.
Covid (@UCSF) Chronicles, Day 838
The die is now cast: BA.5 is destined to be our dominant virus.
In today’s 🧵I discuss the implications on the course of the pandemic, and how to think about responding.
(I use “BA.5” & not “BA.4/5” since BA.5 is poised to outrun BA.4.). (1/25)
