Even in the US, I avoid wasting sutures or opening a disposable item unless I'm sure I'm going to use it. I know the money I save for a fundamentally dysfunctional system is probably undetectable but the frame of mind is not.
A patient told me he was using the medications as directed, but later told my attending he wasn’t using it because he couldn’t afford it.With tears in his eyes,he said to me:“I’m sorry I lied to you.”🥹Standard of care is irrelevant if the patient has no access to it.End of story.
Med students are supposed to learn all preclinical stuff, pass Step 1, shelf exams, Step 2, and rotate in a dozen specialties. Who can do serious research on top of all this? It’s not realistic. Don’t burn yourself out trying to get a publication. Most applicants don’t have any.
My 55 yo friend who is having postmenopausal bleeding just called me from CVS in TX bc they refused to fill her Rx for misoprostol (used to open the cervix) bc she couldn’t prove she wasn’t having an abortion. She is having surgery in 2 days. This is what total abortion bans do.
Welcome to Texas. Today abortion, a medical procedure, is now a felony. Punishable with up to life in prison. No exceptions for rape or incest. If you don’t think this will seriously impact medical care, you are wrong.

USMLE scores have very little to do with being a good doctor. Get the exams behind you then focus on taking great care of your patients. Outstanding patient care defines a great doctor, not board scores.
As an Intern you need to advocate for the Med Students on your service. No one on the team remembers how tricky it can be better than you.
1. Protect their study time
2. Involve them in patient care (and procedures)
3. Teach them as much as you can!
4. Never permit mistreatment!
Today my attending asked me which tendon could be injured in a specific case… I said supraspinatus, and he told me I was wrong and that it was the rotator cuff, and I should never answer something unless I know the correct answer as guessing is unprofessional 🧐🧐
In 2018 I was pregnant with my 4th child but had to terminate due to the fetus being stuck in my tubes. My doctor said I had to terminate or I would die of internal bleeding. So I would have died in 2018. If you don’t have a uterus U are not allowed to have an opinion. #RoeVsWade
In a meeting for an admissions committee, and audience members were saying volunteering isn’t enough anymore. Applicants should have started NPOs or businesses. The director replied “I’m very concerned that we’re burning premeds out before they even start medical school.” ‼️
Don’t let social media fool you…Lives aren’t as perfect as they POST to be. Feeds can look like perfection but behind the filter there’s depression. Don’t lose yourself trying to impress a world that’s going to move on after you die. Protect your mental health.
The appointment of Heidi Villalba, a first-generation college graduate from West Texas, is critical to @TTUVetMed fulfilling its mission to emphasize One Health principles & veterinary medicine practice in rural & regional communities to advance graduate education & research.
Felix and Jonathan, two @ttuhscmed students from the Amarillo campus, have a lot to celebrate after learning where they're headed for residency. #MatchDay2021
