@jmgwritten Harry Potter is far better plotted than Star Wars and probably about equivalent to LotR (though the complexities are of a very different sort in each case).
@jmgwritten I hate the "her plots are bad" thing. Her plots, particularly books 2 to 5 or so, have a complexity that few authors even attempt. Yes, there are a few flaws if you think about it too hard, but this is the case in *all* plot-heavy SF&F.
@WilliamWho27 Though Church on Ruby Road actually did really well, but for some reason that didn't translate into enthusiasm for the new season, and then they lost a lot more viewers through a very poor opening.
@WilliamWho27 Tbf they really tried, departing from tradition by giving the new Doctor a big role in his predecessor's last episode, and then starring in his own special weeks afterwards. But even that wasn't enough to warm people to Gatwa for some reason.
@WilliamWho27 It *should* have been "you liked Tennant, and now look - the new guy's just as good!" I think that's what they were going for. But that doesn't seem to have been how the audience experienced it.
@CVelkyar@naranciagaming It's partly an infrastructure issue, in Europe you simply wouldn't put a crossing on a road this wide without lights or at least a pedestrian refuge halfway across.
@DW_MidJourney I thought he was good, better than Whittaker, but RTD didn't seem interested in giving him much of a character beyond recycling random bits of Tennant and letting him be camp.
@plainrunner2 Most of the time holding someone's hand isn't going to help them escape with you more easily, and traditionally movies have had (nearly always opposite sex) characters do this far too easily.
@OBEhizele I never much liked it but it never gave me the same "ugh this is so American" vibes that other 90s cartoons tended to (except also not Rugrats for some reason?)
@broken_sonnets I am still quite annoyed at this scene, why doesn't the technologically advanced highly authoritarian regime have guards and cameras here, yes it's a good show but why does everyone make out it's flawless
@abitdickensian I think it's plausible there was a problem surrounding her but that she wasn't the problem per se. Maybe she just didn't like doing the show very much.
@thomasforth I don't know how important this is but I find it much easier to get around the Netherlands than most of the UK (the London area being the big exception). You can be more productive when it's easier to go to places.
@spacejock@jennnixon@CameronYardeJnr Yes, the Daleks are "about the Nazis", but in a context where everybody knew about the Nazis and hated them, and they had been soundly defeated 20 years earlier: it was hardly trying to spur anyone into action or change their worldview.
@spacejock@jennnixon@CameronYardeJnr That model (which didn't last very long) was more "let's learn about the Aztecs" or "let's listen to Terry Nation try to explain science he doesn't understand", rather than being about political issues, still less controversial ones.
