If Dr. J did not go into the ABA the year before the NBA draft and he would’ve played four years of college basketball

He was clearly the number one player in his draft class

And would’ve been the number one player picked

But when the draft came, he was already playing in the ABA and no other team was going to take a chance to draft him, knowing that he wasn’t gonna play for them

The only team that took a chance that they thought can lure him to the NBA , Milwaukee Bucks

They had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who grew up near Dr. J and Oscar Robinson.

The NBA had a rule where you had to play 4 years or be in college for four years to be eligible for the draft

The ABA was the only league that drafted players out of high school, also they had a hardship rule where you didn’t have to play for the college basketball

You can leave whenever you want.

They’re all Darrell Dawkins came out of high school school in the ABA.
