Hoping to live long enough, to see UMass play in a game that's big enough, for Bill Pullman to give his Independence Day speech in the pregame locker room.
I think I've listened to all the major Celtics-Sixers reaction pods, plus recorded my own thoughts. I think everyone who covers the league has the same basic thought:
If that was the best offer, why not wait? The season doesn't start tomorrow. Why not see what else develops?
@davidwade This saves them pennies over the next 2yrs which is the key time period to get under the repeater tax. I hate everything about this deal, but this was not financially motivated.
"A 2028 first-round pick: The Sixers own two first-round picks (their own and the Clippers’) so Boston will end up with the more preferable of those picks. This won’t be a pick swap as some have reported." - BRobb
@Platinum78 I think you're being too kind. PG isn't even an NBA starter at this point. Had to shoot up PEDs and rest the entire season to give Philly 2 competent weeks of basketball.
@FightMA01003 The only fair deal would have been upside player + picks, or similar player. You got the picks, but now you have to give those up to get someone who can play? I can't see it. Hope I'm wrong.
@azmatlanba I just don't know how to find bright side on this deal I'm sorry. The picks are meh. The ones that are most likely to matter come when JT is well past his prime, and at this point in his career PG isn't even an NBA starter. I appreciate your optimism but I cant get there.
The 2028 pick Boston is getting, or swapping, with the Sixers is kind of complicated.
Boston could get Philadelphia's pick if it lands 1-8. If that pick is 9-30 it's gone from the Sixers in a complicated swap that involves multiple teams.
If the Philadelphia pick is 9-30, then Boston could get the most favorable of their own pick and the LA Clippers pick that Philadelphia owns, with the less favorable pick staying with the Sixers.
I think that's how it will work out. More to come when it's all been sorted.
@AdamMKaufman That can't be their logic. No one thinks PG contributes to this Cs team do they? These were the best picks they could get? Brad really fucked up.
@UMassAthletics Maybe he should just go back to not talking to anyone for over a year. Him hiding from the world somehow inspires more confidence then when he speaks.
@AlbertBreer If I'm reading this right it's not even the MIAA's decision. The school independently decided they had violated the rules. Not only that seems there's reasonable evidence they may not even have been real. https://t.co/POsHxvJYxe
