Online tutoring is very lucrative.
Here is a funnel anyone who wants to make multi millions from it should use
- Awareness : Create long form contents on core subjects for 10 months straight. Put it on YouTube. For free. Don't sell this.
- Put back links in the contents you put on YouTube.
- Create Instagram and Tiktok Short form contents solving tough and easy questions. Make sure the videos have a Wow factor
- Run Ads for two months on the Instagram and Tiktok videos
- Do a Parent webinar. Invite at least 500 parents to a webinar online and share study and monitoring guide to them while motivating them
All these under the first year
The next year, your rates will be fire.
You have social proof, network, testimonials and all it takes to charge 25-35k naira an hour
As simple as that
If all you know is media buying, especially meta, tiktok, LinkedIn and google ads, you don’t need to be lured into “learn a tech skill” gang
Just take one skill and go all in
Your guy selling gadgets can spend 300k+ and generate ₦100m because the economics of his offer is completely different from yours.
If you’re selling a 1m+ product, one conversion can potentially pay for a huge amount of acquisition. And that customer can potentially buy again hence his revenue..
But photography your business is different. You’re often dealing with a high-consideration service. Someone sees your ad, becomes interested, checks your work, wants to know your process, asks about availability, asks about pricing, compares you with other photographers, and then decides whether to spend hundreds of thousands or millions.
So if your ad’s only job is:
“See my photography → immediately pay me ₦500k/₦1m/₦2m”
you’re making the ad do too much.
That’s where your consultation idea becomes interesting(make it paid).
The actual funnel i will recommend to you is:
Ad → Consultation → Relationship/Trust → Photography Package → Upsell/Repeat Business
Instead of trying to extract the entire value of the customer immediately, you actually create a paid entry point(so eitherways you are not losing).
For example:
“Not sure which photography package is right for you? Book a 25-minute consultation with me for ₦35,000.”
Get a team if it’s too much to sit with them and build a relationship; Now the person who was merely interested has somewhere to go.
And that ₦35k isn’t just random money(it would be funding your ads more) and while at it You’re getting an opportunity to actually speak to them.
You can understand what they’re looking for, their budget, the occasion, what they’re trying to achieve, what they’ve struggled with before, and what package makes sense for them; without just throwing your price for them to guess
Then you can potentially move them into your higher-ticket offer.
The natural instinct here will be to disagree with him. But I kind of partly agree with what he said. Though there are many things wrong with Africa today that we can attribute to colonialism.
But to hinge the whole thing on colonialism is what I don’t want to believe.
It wasn’t.
With rare exception, colonies were unprofitable, meaning more was spent building infrastructure like roads, railways, buildings, etc. than was exported.
And look at places like Singapore and Hong Kong. Both were colonies for a long time and yet they are extremely prosperous.
Take Nigeria for example.
Just look at the greedy and useless politicians we have in this country.
How are we going to say places like Benue, Niger, Kwara despite the hefty allocations they receives are still suffering bad roads in 2026.
