We've had reports from @BDMLR that people have been harassing seals by:
Getting close to them and taking selfies with them
🐶Allowing their dogs to attack them
🚫 Throwing stones at them
Please pack it in, if people keep doing this the seals will stop hauling in.

Current ministers promised me that the use of banned neonicotinoid insecticides on Sugar Beet would be for 3 years only, but have allowed it for a 4th year, against their expert's advice. This will damage waterbodies and bees around the fields. https://t.co/Q6qns8wYni 1/4
Ice cold on patch today, with a biting breeze. Not too many birds visible, but the highlight was a Woodcock feeding where the ground was softer. West Monkseaton, North Tyneside.
Just a couple of species spotted in flower on this morning's walk around Holywell, Northumberland. White dead-nettle and Gorse (of course). #NewYearPlantHunt@BSBIbotany
The butterfly was observed in roughly this spot. Not fantastic habitat, with few bare patches of ground for basking, but the dried seed heads of the Small Copper's larval food plant, Common Sorrel, can just be made out in the foreground.
A beautiful Small Copper butterfly, generally scarce on patch in North Tyneside, taken in early July this year. They seem to be on the increase, perhaps due to the recent warm, dry summers...
No seeds today but a beautiful Common Fleabane, Pulicaria dysenterica, from a couple of weeks ago in West Monkseaton, North Tyneside. #WildflowerHour@wildflower_hour@BSBIbotany
